The tooth and gum are fully numb before we start, so children feel pressure and wiggling rather than pain. Afterwards, children's ibuprofen for a day is usually all that's needed.
What is a space maintainer?
A small appliance that holds the gap open when a baby tooth comes out too early, so the neighbouring teeth don't drift in and block the adult tooth. We'll tell you if your child needs one.
My child's adult tooth is coming in behind the baby tooth. Is that an emergency?
Not an emergency, but worth a prompt look. Often the baby tooth just needs a nudge or a quick removal, and the adult tooth then moves into place on its own.
